Overview of Imaginative Intuition

  • An Extraverted function: deals with the outer world
  • A Perceiving function: deals with how we take in information
  • Imaginative Intuition users take in information by: Looking for future possibilities, theories and potentialities, to imagine solutions and scenarios that are way outside of the box.

What this looks like in kids:
(these will be true MOST of the time with ENTP/ENFP and true just some of the time for INTP/INFP)

  • Exploring in their world
  • Very curious, asking “why” and wanting to understand the meaning behind things
  • Want to talk at length about their many ideas
  • High energy and wound up by having people and things to interact with
  • Creative and imaginative, thinking outside of the box, wanting to approach homework assignments or games in new ways
  • Performing and entertaining adults and kids around them often loudly, outrageously
  • Questioning/challenging with boundaries/rules and want to push the limits
  • Dabble in many different activities
  • They love the excitement of a new project or activity but have trouble following through or completing it
  • Difficulty with focus/concentration and self-discipline such as homework/studying/chores and a tendency to leave things to the last minute
  • Attracted to being different, especially in adolescence
  • Take on too much because they don’t want to miss out on all the possibilities

What your Imaginative Intuition child needs:

  • Outlets for their high physical energy
  • Provide variety
  • Encourage their curiosity
  • Encourage their creativity and imagination
  • When it come to issues in the home, involve them in coming up with a solution by using their powerful brainstorming
  • A safe place for them to be different / for them to try out different “selves” free of judgment.

  1. Thank you SO MUCH for helping me understand my niece! She is this function personified! We never know what color her hair will be when we see her. She has tried every hobby/sport/instrument under the sun, moving on quickly from most. She is adventuresome, creative, and has a HUGE heart. She is studying to be a social worker and will be amazing in this role. I have seen her narrow her focus as she matures, but I still also see her hesitate to narrow her options, and now I see this as a part of her nature and not a red flag!
