Overview of Insightful Intuition

An Introverted function: deals with the inner world

A Perceiving function: deals with how we take in information

Insightful Intuition users take in information by:  Looking for hidden meanings and patterns and extrapolating them into the bigger picture and an insight for the future.

Some aspects of Insightful Intuition:

  • Future Insights: Dario Nardi calls this function Keen Forseeing. An awareness and constant observing and processing of complex patterns and want to extrapolate these patterns to predict what will happen in the future. The most future-oriented of all the functions.
  • Perspective Taking: Personality Hacker uses the nickname “Perspectives” for this function. Insightful Intuition users are really good at perspective taking – seeing things from other angles – and will switch from one perspective to another to think things through.
  • Self-Observing and Growth Oriented: There is a detachment from one’s own perspective that allows Insightful Intuition users to be observant of their own process and patterns and an interest in improving them. This leads to a general bent toward finding insights that will transform the self.
  • Novel Problem-Solving: Attracted to novelty and find a comfortable enjoyment at solving new challenges they have never seen before. Using the patterns they’ve observed and stored as insights to solve problems in new ways.

Differences between Imaginative (Extraverted) Intuition and Insightful (Introverted Intuition):

  • Both are Intuition – based in ideas, theories, meanings and big picture
  • Imaginative Intuition (ENFP ENTP INFP INTP) is more broad – taking in all the possibilities where Insightful Intuition (INFJ INTJ ENFJ ENTJ) is more focused – one clear perfect way to solve a problem or predict the future
  • Imaginative Intuition (ENFP ENTP INFP INTP) is more external – talking through with people or directly experiencing the thing whereas Insightful Intuition (INFJ INTJ ENFJ ENTJ) is more internal – internally observant and needs quiet and peace to work.

Potential Struggles of Insightful Intuition:

  • Difficulty relaxing or being in the moment
  • Need a significant amount of alone and quiet time
  • Follow systems of thinking that seem strange or bizarre to others, often something that made sense in some other era or situation
  • Overly focused on self-improvement theories and learning to the point of neglecting present practical physical needs or actually implementing the daily work required to improve
  • Unrealistic goals and visions for the future creating constant disappointment or an inability to let go of a certain vision when reality is getting in the way
  • So attracted to novelty that you’re reinventing the wheel when the wheel is working just fine

What’s the parenting style:

  • Approach parenting with a goal of personal growth and also may project this on this parenting partner and kids
  • Attracted to new or interesting parenting practices/strategies
  • Needs a lot of alone time away from the kids and parenting partner
  • Takes parenting seriously and might come off as intense
  • Struggle with the routine details necessary to support the family and household
  • May have unrealistic expectations of self and others
  • Can be creative in organizing fun and stimulating activities, projects and parties
  • Teach kids all the perspectives about things
  • Really want to understand their kids on a deeper level (hello listeners!)
  • Difficulty with the noise and confusion of childhood and family life (this is in contrast to the other type of imaginative intuition which does well with this)
