Sandra introduces Elena:

She is a parent with INTJ preferences who actually uses Myers-Briggs type in her work as an Integration Mentor where she helps her clients to optimize their lives and break old patterns of thinking, being, and relating that are keeping them trapped in fear, disconnection, and exhaustion.

Sandra gives an overview of the two main functions that INTJs use:

Insightful Intuition: Looking for hidden meanings and patterns and extrapolating them into the bigger picture and an insight for the future.

Efficient Thinking: Using outer systems, benchmarks & standards of measurement to decide in an efficient way.

Elena tells us about her experience as an INTJ parent including:

  • Her outlook that she never wants to resent her child for the amount of work it takes to parent
  • That although she never had the strong biological urge to have a baby, she did know she wanted the experience of being a parent, and parenthood has been a transformational and beautifully rewarding experience
  • Getting uninterrupted alone time is the most difficult part of parenting. She talks about how her Insightful Intuition process needs ample time to work from start to finish
  • In order to fill her Insightful Intuition bucket, she walks, journals and reads
  • She wants her son to remember from his childhood that he was accepted for exactly who he is
  • Her co-parent (ENTP) uses Relational (Extraverted) Feeling in his backseat, and she uses Resonant (Introverted) Feeling in her backseat, and she said that leads to him being more concerned about how their son’s behavior comes off to other people than her. For example: table manners. For her, she takes the viewpoint that eventually he’ll care about how he comes off to people and will at that point be interested in learning and developing table manners, and in the meantime, she’s okay with not worrying about those
  • For self care she walks, hangs out with adult friends and is learning how to sing and play piano!
  • Her ideal day with her son would include a morning visit to explore a park or a creek, eating out at a restaurant together, retreating home for her to get some alone time in her Insightful Intuition, then coming back together a little before dinner to eat together and do the usual bedtime routine
