Sandra Introduces Naomi:
Naomi Harrington is an Internationally Board Certified Life and Success Coach and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) Practitioner, host of the That’s Deep Podcast (a personality type and personal development podcast), an INFJ, Enneagram 6, and mother of two from Hawaii. She is deeply passionate about helping empaths and highly-sensitive people create more compassionate relationships through learning about themselves and their inner wiring.
Then they get into the topic of the day: HSP Adults and Children
Naomi defines a HSP as someone who has a nervous system that’s very sensitive to external stimuli, environment & people.
Adults, take the HSP test here: HSP quiz
Naomi tells us about the four different areas of high sensitivity:
- Depth of processing
- Overstimulation
- Empathy & emotional responsiveness
- Sensitivities to subtleties
HSP Parents:
- Feeling overwhelmed and overstimulated
- The ability to be so tuned in to the emotions and energetic needs of their children
HSP Kids:
- May be reluctant to engage with unfamiliar people/situations
- Require more time to adjust to new situations
- Guarded, cautious, risk-averse
- May have fears/phobias around not feeling safe in the world
- Heightened muscle tension
- Seek alone time and go into their own world
The overlap between HSP and Personality Type:
- According to Dr. Elaine Aron, 70% of introverts are HSPs, but there are extravert HSPs also
- Myers-Briggs types who report being HSPs: INFJ, INTJ, INFP, ENFJ, ENFP, ISFP, ISFJ, ESFJ, ESFP. And more rarely: INTP, ISTP
- Enneagram types that may overlap with HSPs: Fours, Fives, Sixes, Nines
Naomi’s Tips for HSPs:
- Grounding techniques (You can check out the Washington Post Article on Grounding)
- Immerse yourself in salt water (at the beach, or epsom salt baths)
- Exercise
- Meditation
Leave a Comment: Are you a HSP parent? Do you have a HSP kid? What does that look like for them?
What’s upcoming:
