Episode 19

Em updates us on her campaign and her first radio interview and Sandra lets off some steam regarding the west coast fires and climate change denial.

Why Do They Do That Segment – Where we analyze the strange, annoying or confusing things we or our family members do, using personality type.

  • Em shares a moment at Target where her daughter (ISFJ is our best guess for her) was very concerned about putting the cart (or buggy for you southerners!) away exactly the way it should be, and was judgy about the store employee who was not doing it in that way. Sandra talks about how kids who have a preference for Judging having a lot of confidence over the way things should be and a desire to put the world around them in order. In addition, kids who use Sensing can have a tendency toward precision.

  • Sandra shares that her daughter (ISFP) will only participate in her homeschooling lessons right now if we pretend sheโ€™s a puppy at Puppy School. She talks about how types who use Introverted Feeling have a warm spot for animals or people who canโ€™t fend for themselves, and with her daughter that comes out as a love of kitties, puppies and babies. Also, she speculates that since her type also uses a function called Extraverted Sensing, that future reward is difficult to keep in mind, so itโ€™s all about having fun in the moment and making life into a game.

  • Sandra describes how the previous evening they were sitting on the couch watching The Worldโ€™s Toughest Race documentary and she all of a sudden became seemingly instantly overwhelmed by how much her children were touching her. She goes into the fact that for INFJs, the Extraverted Sensing function is an unconscious and difficult to access function and how that can lead to sensory overload sometimes without any warning.

  1. INFJ here! I SOOOOO relate to the Ripley/couch situation! My husband and I sit in recliners watching TV, just like oldies!๐Ÿคฃ My kids used to wedge into my chair with me. Theyโ€™d say, โ€œcan we sit?โ€ And by this they mean, can I smush you in your chair and wiggle constantly and require up close face to face engagement until I push you riiiiiight to the edge of sanity?โ€ And I TOTALLY get caught off guard by my need to be done at some random sudden moment that I could probably predict with some introspection. I was really glad when they grew too big. Now I sit with them on the couch until I need space a d then move to my island/chair. Sandra, you need a chair. ๐Ÿ’›
